This Privacy Policy explains how Walimu, LLC (“Walimu” or “we”) collects, uses, and shares personal information. As used in this Privacy Policy, “you” may refer to either a user of Walimu’s products or services (“Services”); or a person providing visiting our website, using our apps, or interacting with us. This Privacy Policy describes our use of information that identifies or might reasonably identify you (“personal information”).

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy. In some cases, we may provide you with additional notice, such as sending you an email notification. We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you use our Services or apps, or visit our website to understand how we use personal information and the ways you can help protect your privacy.

Log Information: We log personal information during use of our Services, including browser information, page views, IP addresses, and the website visited before navigating to our website to help us to improve our website and Services.

Information We Collect From Other Sources
We may also obtain information from other sources and combine that with the information we collect through our website or Services. For example, when you create or log into your account through a social media site, we will have access to certain information from that site, such as your name and account information, in accordance with the authorization procedures determined by such social media sites except to the extent that your chosen social media platform allows you to disable this functionality. We may use publicly available tools, such as a Google Analytics, to better understand users’ preferences. Collection of data by third-party tools are subject to their respective privacy policies.

Walimu is based in the United States, and the information we collect is governed by U.S. law and the laws of the other countries in which we operate. By accessing or using our Services or otherwise providing information to us, you understand and consent to the processing and transfer of information in the U.S. and other countries for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

Sharing of Information
We may share personal information as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

With vendors, consultants, and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf as requested through the Services;
With third parties to provide marketing and promotional purposes on our behalf, provided that they have agreed to handle personal information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy;

We may allow others to provide analytics services. Walimu and others may use this information to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, and better understand user online activity.

Walimu takes reasonable measures to help protect personal information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.

Your Choices
Account Information
You may update, correct or delete personal information at any time by emailing us using the contact us form. If you wish to delete or deactivate your account, you can do so by emailing us, but we may retain certain personal information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes. We may also retain cached or archived copies of your personal information until purged during our normal course of business.

Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies. Removing or rejecting browser cookies does not necessarily affect third party flash cookies used in connection with our Services. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of our Services.

Name of the register

User register of the Walimu service

Use of personal details (purpose of register)

Personal details are collected to make communication and use of service possible. Details can be used for communication between service providers and users and also for direct communication between users. Some personal details are visible on the profile page of the user, but those details are voluntary (except name).

The handling of personal details is not outsourced, but the register data is stored on a server that is rented from a third party company.

Information content of the register

The following information may be stored in the register:

  • Personal details: Name, email address, phone number, street address
  • Account details: username, password (stored in encrypted format)
  • The description text that the user may write about him/herself
  • The offers and requests the user has posted to the service
  • The given and received feedback and badges
  • Statistical data about service usage, e.g. number times the user has logged in

Regular sources of information

Personal details are given by the user on registration to the service or when using it later.

Regular handovers of the information

The information may be handed over for research purposes as described in the Terms of use that the user accepts before starting to use the service. The researchers may not publish any research results so that identifying information would be revealed or that any specific user could be detected.

Information considering users of a single Walimu community may be handed over to the client who has founded that community or to the community administrators appointed by that client.

Transfers of the information outside the EU and the European Economic Area

Information may be stored to a server that may be located inside or outside of the EU and the European Economic Area

Register protection principles

The information is stored on computers. The access to the information is restricted with passwords and physical access to the computers is restricted by the server hosting company.
